These unusual globe-shaped flowers will add a dramatic flair to any garden. Alliums are in the onion family. There are many different varieties that bloom May through June. And since they are Spring bulbs, they must be planted in the Fall/Autumn.

Alliums are excellent for planting in groups or in a border. Some have flower heads that dry very well. Grow the shorter species at the front of a border or in a rock garden. Many seed freely and naturalize very well. Avoid waterlogged soil. Several species also have culinary uses. Excellent perennializers.
