Perhaps you've noticed orange jelly-like balls on juniper branches in the spring of the year. Plant diseases show their faces in a variety of ways -- some stranger than others. Consider the disease, Juniper-Hawthorn Rust, also known as cedar-apple rust. The fungus that causes this disease will produce orange jelly-like balls on juniper branches. This orange gelatinous material, which contains thousands of spores, oozes out of chocolate-colored galls present on affected branches. Spores then are carried by the wind to the pathogen's alternate host.

You should encourage these little bugs, not discourage them. Minute pirate bugs belong to the order Heteroptera, or true bugs, and they feed on many plant pests including aphids, leafhoppers, spider mites, lace bugs, whiteflies, scales, plant bugs, flies, caterpillars and even other insect's eggs. These are one of the most beneficial insects you can have in your yard.

How do I rid my lawn of moles?

You must first get rid of the food source ?? grubs, sod webworms and some beetles. Then you can use either a toxic cartridge that ??smokes? their holes or a toxic pellet that you place in the burrows.

Earwigs

Earwigs are second only to snails and slugs. They eat almost anything soft. They do have a good side to them, as they eat insects such as aphids. Unfortunately they also feed on soft plants. They can do quite a lot of damage if there is a high population. Earwigs are nocturnal, coming out to feed at night, and running back to hide in a moist, tight fitting place during the day. You can trap them by putting out moistened, tightly rolled newspaper or corrugated cardboard in the evening. In the morning dispose of the paper and the trapped insects.
