I had to dig up my tulip bed due to construction. What is the best way to keep them through the summer. I live in Iowa.

Autumn-flowering crocuses are often the garden's last hurrah before winter. Choose several with different blooming times, to last from September through November or even beyond. Plant them in groups and swathes where you can see them from indoors. They like sun to dappled deciduous shade in porous, well drained soil.

Summer flowering bulbs

Well-known summer flowering bulbs are Dahlias, Begonias, Lilies, Gladiolas. Summer flowering bulbs are planted late spring. A couple of months later they will bloom. Summer flowering bulbs will bloom in most climates but most of them are not winter hardy. Hence in cold climates most summer flowering bulbs should be lifted and stored to be used the next season.

Well-known spring flowering bulbs are Tulips, Daffodils, Crocuses, Hyacinths and Alliums.
All spring flowering bulbs have in common the need to be planted some 3–4 weeks before the frost is in the ground. They need the cold season to start their biological clock.

The botanical name for tulips, Tulipa, is derived from the Turkish word tulpend or turban, which the flower resembles. Many people think of Holland as the home of the tulip, in reality wild tulips are native to Turkey and western and central Asia, with only a few species occurring in Europe.
